Candle Wax Calculator
Calculate wax weight, fragrance oil, and wick length for candle making based on container volume, wax type, and fragrance load.

What is it?
Candle wax weight is calculated as: container volume x wax density x fill factor (85%, leaving headspace for a clean burn pool). Fragrance oil is added as a percentage of the wax weight — too much causes fragrance seepage or fire hazard; too little gives poor scent throw. Different wax types have different densities and fragrance load limits.
How to use
Enter your container volume in mL (measure with water), select your wax type, set the fragrance load percentage, and enter how many candles you are making. The calculator outputs total wax and fragrance oil weights.
Example scenario
300 mL container, Soy Wax, 8% fragrance, 1 candle: Wax = 300 x 0.90 x 0.85 = 229.5g. Fragrance = 229.5 x 0.08 = 18.4g. Total materials for this candle: 229.5g soy wax + 18.4g fragrance oil.
Pro tip
Pour soy wax at 55-65°C (130-150°F) and add fragrance at 60°C (140°F) for best scent binding. Allow to cure 48-72 hours before burning — curing improves scent throw significantly. Wick sizing is critical: too small gives a poor burn pool; too large produces soot. Test burn every new container + wax + fragrance combination. The 85% fill factor is intentional — a full jar prevents proper air circulation during burning.
