What is it?
CTR (Click-Through Rate) measures the percentage of people who saw your ad and clicked it. CPC (Cost Per Click) is the average cost of each click. These two metrics are the core performance indicators of any pay-per-click (PPC) or display campaign.
How to use
1. Enter the total number of clicks your ad received. 2. Enter the total impressions (how many times the ad was shown). 3. Enter your total ad spend. The calculator returns CTR, CPC, and effective CPM.
Example scenario
A Google Ads campaign generated 500 clicks from 50,000 impressions for a $250 spend. CTR = 1.0%, CPC = $0.50, CPM = $5.00. These are strong results for a display campaign (average display CTR is ~0.1%).
Pro tip
CTR benchmarks: Search ads 3–5%, display ads 0.1–0.3%, Facebook 0.9%, email 2–5%. A low CTR signals poor ad relevance or targeting. Improving your ad headline, image, and audience targeting can increase CTR by 2–5x, directly reducing CPC without increasing spend. Google uses CTR as a key Quality Score factor — higher CTR often lowers your CPC through better ad rank.
