How to use
1. Enter your EV's usable battery capacity in kWh (check the manufacturer specs). 2. Enter the energy efficiency in Wh/km (typically 130–200 for modern EVs). 3. Enter your local electricity rate in dollars per kWh. 4. Enter the trip distance. The calculator outputs estimated range, energy needed, and total charging cost.
Example scenario
A 75 kWh EV with 150 Wh/km efficiency has an estimated range of 500 km. A 300 km trip uses 45 kWh of energy, costing $5.40 at $0.12/kWh — roughly $0.018 per km.
Pro tip
Real-world EV range is heavily affected by speed, temperature, cabin heating/cooling, and terrain. Highway driving at high speeds can reduce range by 20–30%. In cold weather, expect 10–40% range loss.
