What is it?
The Frequent Flyer Value Calculator tells you the dollar value of your miles/points balance using a cents-per-point (CPP) benchmark, and evaluates specific award redemptions to see if they beat the benchmark.
How to use
Enter your miles balance and a CPP benchmark (e.g. 1.5c for American Airlines). Optionally enter a specific redemption to compare its actual CPP value against your benchmark.
Example scenario
50,000 miles at 1.5c CPP = $750 portfolio value. A business class award costing 60,000 miles with a $1,800 cash price yields 3.0c CPP — double the benchmark value.
Pro tip
Premium cabin redemptions (business and first class) almost always give the best CPP value because the cash price premium over economy is huge. Revenue bookings in economy at 1.0c per mile are often poor value. Transfer partners and airline alliances give you more redemption options. Points depreciate with inflation — redeem before program devaluations.
