What is it?
Glycemic Load (GL) combines the glycemic index with actual carbohydrate content to give a more accurate picture of blood sugar impact.
How to use
Enter the food GI, carbs per serving, and number of servings. GL below 10 is low, 11-19 is medium, 20+ is high.
Example scenario
Watermelon has a high GI of 72 but low carbs per serving, resulting in a GL of only ~5 — a low-impact snack.
Pro tip
GL is a better dietary planning tool than GI alone because it accounts for realistic portion sizes.
