Payment processors charge a percentage fee plus a small fixed fee per transaction. PayPal Standard charges 3.49% + $0.49; Stripe charges 2.90% + $0.30; PayPal International charges 4.49% + $0.49 (rates as of 2025 — always verify on the platform's official pricing page). For high-volume sellers, negotiate custom rates with Stripe (usually available at >$80K/month in volume). Also consider that Stripe's lower fixed fee ($0.30 vs $0.49) makes it significantly cheaper for small-ticket items, while the difference shrinks on larger transactions.
