What is it?
The Pet Pregnancy Calendar estimates key milestone days during canine or feline pregnancy based on the mating date and species-average gestation length. Dogs average 63 days (range 58-68), cats average 65 days (range 63-67).
How to use
Select the species, enter the mating date, and the calculator shows the average due date (day 63/65), when the heartbeat becomes detectable by ultrasound (day 25), when skeletal X-rays can count puppies/kittens (day 45+), and the earliest expected whelping window.
Example scenario
A dog mated on January 1st has a heartbeat detectable by ultrasound around January 26th, X-ray confirmation available around February 15th, and whelping expected between February 28th and March 14th (days 56-70).
Pro tip
Dogs can whelp anywhere from day 58 to day 68 — prepare a whelping box by day 55. Begin taking the dam's rectal temperature twice daily from day 58: a drop to below 99°F (37.2°C) signals whelping within 24 hours. Schedule a veterinary exam at week 4 to confirm pregnancy and count litter size by ultrasound. Do not overfeed in early pregnancy; increase nutrition in the last 3 weeks only.
