What is it?
The Pizza Size Comparison Calculator divides price by area (pi x r squared) to find the cost per square inch for two pizzas. Because pizza area grows with the square of the radius, larger pizzas almost always deliver significantly more pizza per dollar.
How to use
Enter the diameter and price of each pizza. The calculator computes each pizza total area and cost per square inch. The lower cost per square inch is the better value.
Example scenario
A 12" pizza at $12 has 113 sq in giving $0.106/sq in. A 16" pizza at $18 has 201 sq in giving $0.090/sq in. The larger pizza is 15% cheaper per square inch even though it costs $6 more.
Pro tip
Bigger pizzas are almost always better value due to the quadratic relationship between diameter and area. Doubling the diameter gives you 4x the pizza. The exception is if you only need a small amount and the larger pizza will go to waste.
