The Table Seating Capacity Calculator estimates how many tables and guests fit in a banquet room using the industry-standard 70% usable floor area rule — the other 30% is reserved for pathways, staging, service stations, and ADA routes.
How to use
Enter the room length and width, space footprint per table (including chairs and circulation), and seats per table. If there is a reserved head table, add those guests separately.
Example scenario
A 60x40 ft room (2,400 sq ft) has 1,680 sq ft usable. With 28 sq ft per 60" round table: 60 tables x 8 seats = 480 guests. Add a 16-seat head table for 496 total.
Pro tip
The 70% usable rule is a starting point — adding a dance floor can reduce usable area by 200-600 sq ft. Always verify the venue fire marshal capacity certificate before finalizing guest count. ADA accessibility requires main aisles of 60" minimum and accessible routes to all seating areas.
