📖What is it?

Points cost systems balance tabletop miniature armies so that each side brings equal strategic value to the game. Each unit or model has a point value reflecting its power; the sum must not exceed the agreed game size (e.g. 2,000 points for Warhammer 40K matched play, 1,000 for Combat Patrol). Getting close to the limit without going over maximises your available resources.

🎯How to use

Enter the model count and points-per-model for each unit type, add wargear and upgrade costs, then set your points limit. The calculator shows total army points, remaining headroom, and how complete your list is as a percentage. Expand the inputs for additional unit types.

💡Example scenario

Warhammer 40K 2,000 point list: 10 Space Marines at 20pts each (200pts), 5 Terminators at 45pts each (225pts), plus 120pts in upgrades = 545 total points. Remaining: 1,455 points ? you have plenty of room to add more units. At 100% you have a tournament-legal full list.

🏆Pro tip

Most tournaments allow up to 2,000 points but you cannot exceed the limit ? unused points are wasted. Aim for 95-100% efficiency. Rounding errors accumulate with wargear: track every upgrade individually rather than estimating. Free apps like Battlescribe or the official Warhammer 40K app calculate points automatically and enforce legal force organisation charts.
