What is it?
The Tile Calculator tells you exactly how many tiles and bags of grout to purchase for a floor or wall project. It accounts for a user-defined waste factor to cover breakage, edge cuts, and future repairs.
How to use
1. Enter the length and width of the area to be tiled. 2. Select your tile size from the dropdown. 3. Set the waste factor — use 10% for simple rectangular layouts, 15–20% for diagonal patterns or complex rooms. 4. The result shows the total tile count and grout bag estimate.
Example scenario
Tiling a 10 × 8 ft bathroom floor with 12×12 tiles at 10% waste: area = 80 ft². Tiles = ceil(80/1 × 1.10) = 88 tiles. Grout = ceil(80/50) = 2 bags.
Pro tip
Always buy at least 10% extra tiles and store them — tile dye lots change, and a perfect replacement match years later can be impossible to find. Diagonal installation adds roughly 15% waste due to corner cuts.
