What is it?
The Time Zone Converter translates a local time to another time zone using UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) offsets. UTC is the international standard from which all world time zones are calculated โ e.g., New York (EST) is UTC-5, London (GMT) is UTC+0, Tokyo (JST) is UTC+9.
How to use
Enter your local hour in 24-hour format (e.g., 9 for 9 AM, 14 for 2 PM). Select your current time zone from the "From" dropdown and the target time zone from the "To" dropdown. The calculator shows the equivalent hour in the target zone, the offset difference, and whether the target is on the same day, yesterday, or tomorrow.
Example scenario
Scheduling a call: you are in New York (EST, UTC-5) at 9:00 AM and need to find the time for a colleague in Tokyo (JST, UTC+9). Offset diff = 9 - (-5) = +14 hours. 9 + 14 = 23, meaning 11 PM same day in Tokyo.
Pro tip
This calculator uses fixed UTC offsets and does not account for Daylight Saving Time (DST). During DST (typically MarchโNovember in the US), add 1 hour to US time zones (e.g., EST -5 becomes EDT -4). For recurring international meetings, use a world clock tool like timeanddate.com or schedule via Google Calendar (which handles DST automatically). Choosing a meeting time anchored to UTC (e.g., "15:00 UTC") is unambiguous for all participants worldwide.
