What is it?
For informational/educational purposes only. Not legal advice. Consult a qualified attorney for your situation. VAT (Value Added Tax) is added to goods and services in most countries. The reverse charge mechanism shifts the VAT accounting obligation from the seller to the buyer, commonly used in cross-border B2B EU transactions.
How to use
Enter an amount and the applicable VAT rate. If you have a net (ex-VAT) price and want the gross, use "Add VAT." If you have a gross (inc-VAT) price and want to extract the net, use "Remove VAT." Both results are shown simultaneously.
Example scenario
A UK consultant invoices an EU client for 1,000 net. With 20% VAT added: gross = 1,200; VAT = 200. If the client received a 1,200 gross invoice and wants to extract net: net = 1,000; VAT = 200.
Pro tip
Under EU reverse charge rules, the buyer self-accounts for VAT the seller issues a VAT-free invoice marked "Reverse Charge applies." Always verify which transactions qualify for reverse charge in your jurisdiction.
